Winter Comfort- Screw the Diet!

Yes I do argue that diets have a place in this world, just not after Christmas, New Years, Valentines day, Memorial Day or when pushing away from the table after a great meal. Diets stand for " Did I Eat That?" and the answer is always...YES! Perhaps our dealings in food isn't the denial of food but the realness of appreciation for it as the gift it can be in our lives.

I walked into a small store in the past year and someone asked me how I lost so much weight. I mentioned that I was on a medication that helped modify my outlook for carbs and with some exercise I was able to begin to take off the weight. I began to see that it is not the erasing of food from our lives but a conscious effort to keep it proportional to the body's need and our ability to truly enjoy it.

Take for a moment, how busy lives get that we look for the short cuts to cooking, the five minute meals on the run. It can be easier to look to the shelf of the pantry than to really challenge your creativity to cook in 5 minutes and spend 20 minutes enjoying it. Now that being said, indulgence is a wonderful thing every now and again.... in proportion to what our body needs! SAIETY! Stop at the earliest point that you not only feel full but also the fulfillment of the food you are eating. I grew up being told to eat everything on my plate ( yes my parent's were post depression era folk). More than that ,I was challenged to eat some new food dish as a child, which meant been exposed to different and unusual foods, like them or not (most I love today).

So this winter I have found a new dish that I decided to see if it works, short ribs, lasagna noodles, mushrooms, well just go to the TASTE tab and check out my "Brian's Winter Short Rib Lasagna Roll up Recipe". Remember pay attention to taste and stop in short when fulfillment has filled the body's need. SCREW the DIET!
